Nicol of Skene is one of the leading civil engineering contractors in the North East of Scotland. Strategic and continual investment in plant, machinery and new technology provides their private and public sector clients with the confidence that their contract will be carried out using the most up to date techniques and equipment. Their equipment is maintained in the peak of condition by their own team of dedicated professionals whose pride in their job is clear to see. The one thing they didn’t have was an office facility that reflected the company’s stature and success, so they planned a new headquarters building to be built on their site at Skene by Westhill. Nicol of Skene used all their own civils squads to carry out all ground works and built the steelwork, roofing and cladding to create a wind and watertight shell. At this point they required to team up with a fit-out specialist to create the interior of the new headquarters to a high specification and with a real impact, but within a reasonable budget. We took the CEO on a tour of recently completed projects and we designed and priced an interior that combined reasonable cost with carefully chosen finishes in conjunction with the Nicol family to produce a stunning project.
Working as a specialist sub-contractor to Transform, we used Optima glazed partitioning and doors, teamed up with walnut finishes contrasting with white and black trims to produce a crisp and sharp finish to the internal walls. Feature ceilings were created with Hunter Douglas Linear walnut incorporating LED feature lighting, and feature walls were created to incorporate Nicol of Skene’s logo on slate tiles to convey the company’s core business with other feature walls in Tektura vinyl to finish the look. The open plan office ceilings were done in Armstrong Tegular Dune Supreme to provide a modern, clean aesthetic and controlled acoustics. The Spacestor storage wall was also finished in walnut and white to combine superb aesthetics with practicality and maximisation of the space. The result is an office interior that Nicol of Skene can be proud of.
“We were impressed that Transform and Modul8 could help to develop the basic design we had for our new headquarters building to add the impact that we were looking for from the fit out. They were helpful from the start in developing our ideas and suggesting appropriate products to achieve our vision, and once the contract team started on site they produced a sharp and tidy finish. Although the finished result looks fantastic, the costs were kept to a minimum by careful selection from the wide product range we were offered, and the site was handed over in good time for us to move in to our excellent new headquarters facility. We look forward to welcoming our customers to our new offices. Thanks to all involved.”
