The Inverness Campus development was required to achieve a shared facility that offers office accommodation, laboratory space, workshop areas and shared facilities such as café and shared meeting areas in a similar way that was achieved at the Centre for Health Science in Inverness, which was previously developed by HIE to provide shared accommodation for a range of other education, research and businesses organisations in the healthcare sector. The finished Plot 10 is called “An Lòchran” - a Catalyst for change. Highlands and Islands Enterprise is co-located with key research and education departments from the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and research and consultancy divisions from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC). This unique partnership is working together to encourage young people to become more involved in science and technology based subjects in support of our region’s future workforce development.
We used Optima 117 single glazed partitioning with Glass Doors office frontages, Revolution 54 double glazed for private meeting spaces and Revolution 97 double glazed for the sections with pocket sliding doors. For the fire rated glazing we used Optima Technishield with 25mm Pyrobel glass to achieve 60 minute fire rating, and we used 17.5mm toughened acoustic laminate glass to achieve the line loadings required in the atrium areas. By using 12.8mm Acoustic Laminate glass in the single glazed we achieved 38db (RW) and by using 12.8mm Acoustic Laminate and 12mm toughened glass we increased the acoustic performance of the double glazing to 48db (RW).
The glazing was enhanced with a discreet range of manifestations which themed each work area and meeting space. The seamless appearance of the glass to glass joints was created with Optima’s patented NebulaTM in-line joint and the slim 25mm tracks in RAL9006 finished the look. The project has excellent clean lines and provides an aesthetically minimal look which allows the quality of the finish to shine through.
